SINGAPORE

Two-room flats launched at the Housing and Development Board’s (HDB) sales exercise on Thursday are drawing a strong response from singles.

This is the second time that singles are able to apply for flats directly from the HDB.

There are about 60 out of 192 two-room Build-to-Order (BTO) units set aside for singles in Punggol.

And as of 5pm, there were 12.2 singles applying for each unit available.

But the most heavily subscribed are the balance two-room flats in Hougang, where about five units are set aside for singles.

There are some 60.2 singles applying for each unit there.

Other balance flats in Punggol are also proving popular with 16.9 singles applying for each unit.

In Choa Chu Kang, there are 5.9 singles vying for each unit on offer.

Out of 5,293 flats launched on Thursday, there are 1,137 balance two-room flats from previous BTO exercises on offer in various estates.

This is more than double the total number of two-room flats launched in July.

About a third of them are set aside for singles. It is also the first time that 3Gen flats are on offer and there are 84 units available in Yishun.

While there is no specific breakdown, as of 5pm, there were 379 applicants for 344 five-room and 3Gen flats on offer.

This month’s BTO exercise closes on Wednesday.
