National Development Minister Khaw Boon Wan said the Housing and Development Board has decided to retain the existing ethnic integration policy limits for rental flats.

This is because Singapore’s ethnic mix has remained stable over the years.

The decision was made after a review on the policy was completed.

Mr Khaw said this in a written parliamentary reply to MP for Aljunied GRC Pritam Singh on Monday, who had asked about the status of the review.

But Mr Khaw also noted there are vulnerable families whose waiting time for a rental flat may be severely prolonged if the ethnic limits are applied strictly.

He said the HDB will exercise up to 10 per cent flexibility in its block limits for HDB rental flats.

This is to allow more rental flats to be allocated to vulnerable families when needed.
