SINGAPORE

The Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA) has invited consultants to design public areas in the Civic District to strengthen its identity and attractiveness as a world-class arts and cultural hub.

This comes as the district prepares for a new look with the opening of revamped public buildings such as The National Art Gallery, Victoria Theatre and Victoria Concert Hall in 2015.

URA said the focus of the consultancy is to improve pedestrian links and public spaces in the district through landscaping works.

Consultants must propose ways to improve connectivity to adjacent precincts, like the Fort Canning Park, Bras Basah, Bugis, as well as the nearby City Hall MRT Station and the Marina Bay waterfront, said URA.

URA has also invited ideas to enhance open spaces in Empress Place and Esplanade Park to boost the overall attraction of the area.

Both local and international firms can participate in the project. Firms can submit their proposals by 31 Jan 2013.
